"Years of high vacancy rates, combined with the COVID-19 pandemic and its resulting impact on staffing levels, have significantly challenged the judiciary's ability to conduct management conferences, hearings and trials," Judge Glenn A. Grant, acting administrative director of the court, said. "A growing and unmanageable backlog of court cases was the predictable result."

Before the Assembly Budget Committee Monday, acting Administrative Director of the New Jersey Courts Glenn A. Grant expressed appreciation for a reduction in the number of judicial vacancies and discussed the judiciary's strategic plan to combat a backlog which has more than doubled since 2019.
