On Monday, Gov. Phil Murphy announced the nomination of John Jay Hoffman, Rutgers University general counsel, to fill the vacancy left by soon-to-be-retiring Associate Justice Lee A. Solomon on the New Jersey Supreme Court bench.

Murphy announced the pick Monday at a press conference, noting that this is his fifth and likely final nomination to the state high court, barring any unexpected events. Solomon, who occupies a Republican seat on the state’s high court, will reach the mandatory retirement age of 70 on Aug. 17.
