During a nomination hearing for a new state high court justice earlier this week, New Jersey Senate President Nicholas P. Scutari commended the governor’s selection and casually told Gov. Phil Murphy he was “confident that you could do it at the Appellate Division.”

While Scutari said he’d “cede that for another day,” the possibility of introducing an amendment to the New Jersey Constitution to change how Appellate Division judges are selected has been floating around for several weeks.
