The Appellate Division’s published opinion in State v. Wilson (June 12, 2024) reversed an order suppressing evidence from the search of a locked glove compartment of a motor vehicle that had been stopped for an alleged minor traffic offense. We believe that the opinion is inconsistent with precedent of our Supreme Court and was incorrectly decided.

The trial court had initially denied the defendant’s motion to suppress, but after the New Jersey Supreme Court rendered its decision in State v. Cohen on June 22, 2023, the matter was reconsidered and the motion to suppress was granted. The state’s motion for leave to appeal was granted, and the Appellate Division reversed.
