A $1.9 million settlement has been reached for a Hunterdon County man who was injured when a Raritan County police officer rear-ended the back of his vehicle.

Edward Westling, 59, was driving west on Voorhees Corner Road in Flemington on Jan. 24, 2020, when he stopped at the corner of Concord Ridge Road, waiting to make a left turn. Brian Mayer, a Raritan Township police officer, was on duty in his police cruiser, traveling in the same direction, according to the complaint, filed in Somerset County Superior Court. Mayer swerved to avoid Westling's vehicle, but it was too late, and he hit the man's car from behind.
