We were chagrined to learn that earlier this year, Douglas H. Hurd, presiding judge of Mercer County's civil division was the subject of a serious disciplinary complaint to the Advisory Committee on Judicial Conduct (ACJC). The offense: allowing his secretary to work from home during the COVID-19 pandemic. The adage "no good turn goes unpunished," comes to mind.

And so we applaud the New Jersey Supreme Court, which last week saw through the overreach—stopped the ACJC proceedings—and unanimously dismissed the charges against Judge Hurd. It was a rare intercession for the court and a rare rebuke for the Administrative Office of the Courts Acting Director Judge Glenn Grant, who proffered the charges.
