Illinois Union Insurance, a Chubb subsidiary, was slapped with a federal insurance coverage lawsuit by Shamrock Technologies over the insurer’s refusal to provide coverage for per and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) remediation. Shamrock alleged that Illinois has a duty to defend and pay for loss under their umbrella and general liability policies.
Takeaway: The case is part of a broader trend of suits filed over PFAS groundwater contamination. PFAS, otherwise known as “forever chemicals," are carcinogenic.

The complaint was filed Sept. 4 in Connecticut District Court by attorney Robert M.
