A 48-year-old woman who was seriously injured after tripping on a carpet at her sister’s Kenilworth home won a $4.5 million verdict from a Middlesex County jury.
Plaintiff Marzena Pogorzelska was visiting her sister when she tripped over a raised portion of an area rug in her sister’s family room. Her lawsuit, Pogorzelska v. Worldwide Floor Covering, was filed in May 2021 in Middlesex County Superior Court against Pogorzelska’s sister, Ewa Joseph, and Worldwide Wholesale Floor Coverings where the carpet was purchased, among other defendants. After an eight-day trial, the jury returned with the verdict after deliberating for just an hour and a half on Jan. 29.
