An advocate for New Jersey’s in-house lawyers says he is disappointed that the Supreme Court’s MCLE committee wants the education requirement to apply to the 1,451 holders of the state’s limited law license.

Phillip Crowley, vice president of the New Jersey Corporate Counsel Association, says the organization sought an exemption for limited license holders because they are already subject to the CLE rules in the jurisdictions where they are fully admitted. The Court created the limited license in 2004 to allow in-house counsel from other states to do transactional work in New Jersey.
