The state Supreme Court on Monday censured a municipal judge who dismissed a traffic ticket for a friend and former colleague during an ex parte meeting in chambers.

The Court, 5-1, accepted the findings of the Advisory Committee on Judicial Conduct that Sybil Elias, who sits in East Orange and Irvington, violated court rules and the Canons of Judicial Ethics by failing to recuse from the case and by ruling in the prosecutor’s absence.
