W.R. Grace & Co. (Old Grace) assumed asbestos liability when it acquired Zoolite Co. in 1963. In 1997, Old Grace formed a new subsidiary, Grace Specialty Chemicals (New Grace). All of the liability for Old Grace’s pollution was to remain with this entity.
