Around this time of year, I like to lighten up from my usual dollop of lawyer professional development advice.

Of course, life is very different this year. Despite the looming economic crisis, this is not the year to be cheap. In fact, it is a year to dig a little deeper, especially for recipients who are less fortunate. I acknowledge some folks reading this guide may not be in a position to shop ´til they drop. Even if you are cash-strapped, there are plenty of meaningful recession-proof gifts, whether they are home-baked goodies, sincere words of appreciation or random acts of kindness. Such good will is seriously underrated. Yet spreading it can be easy and a little can go a long way.
