The Administrative Office of the Courts says it will terminate its long-standing Special Civil Part service-by-mail program as of April 1 due to lack of sufficient funds and will return to some form of personal service of process.

In a notice to the bar [see page 2], Acting Administrative Director of the Courts Glenn Grant said mail service in special civil and small claims cases will stop on that date unless the Legislature restores the judiciary’s authority to set the program’s fees.
