Northwest Passage — Just as Boy Scouts must be prepared for emergencies, a lawyer should be vigilant in seizing opportunities to promote his law practice anytime, anywhere. Hackensack lawyer John Gonzo took that motto to new heights this summer — hanging his firm’s shingle at the Arctic Circle.

Gonzo led 10 scouts to Alaska on a 10-day trip that included glacier hiking, canoeing, fishing and whitewater rafting. They reached the Artic Circle by driving 125 miles north from Fairbanks on treacherous, unpaved roads. There, Gonzo displayed a sign for Kaufman, Dolowich, Voluck & Gonzo , a 50-lawyer firm, which has offices in Los Angeles, New York City, San Francisco, Blue Bell, Pa., Woodbury, N.Y., and Hackensack — although none in Alaska yet.
