State v. Rone, A-5850-07T4, A-6192-07T4; Appellate Division; opinion by Wefing, P.J.A.D.; decided and approved for publication December 9, 2009 Before Judges Wefing, Grall and LeWinn. On appeal from the Law Division, Essex County, Municipal Appeal No. 2007-058. [Sat below: Judge Costello.] DDS No. 14-2-6128 [30 pp.]
Defendant’s conviction for obstruction of justice rests on an incident that occurred on Dec. 20, 2006, in Newark. Officer Wilson of the Rutgers University police signaled a car to pull over. Jamil Grant, the driver stopped by Wilson, is defendant’s nephew. During the stop, a second vehicle pulled up and stopped in a lane of traffic. Defendant got out, said she was a member of the Newark City Council, and demanded to know why Wilson had stopped Grant’s car. Wilson told defendant to move her vehicle out of the lane of traffic and to get away from Grant’s car. She did not comply.
