Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo Jr. hosted a ceremony last Tuesday dedicating a bronze plaque to honor Raymond A. Brown, an iconic civil rights leader and attorney who passed away on Oct. 9 at the age of 94. The plaque was installed in the promenade of the Essex County Government Complex to raise awareness about Brown’s contributions to Essex County and the state. In attendance were family friend India Edwards, son-in-law Alfred Bowles, family friend Eva Russell, grandson Chad Brown, daughter-in-law Wanda Atkin Brown, son and law partner Raymond M. Brown, daughter Deborah Brown Bowles, DiVincenzo, wife Jennie Brown, attorney Michael Critchley, attorney Frank Giantomasi, N.J. State Senator Teresa Ruiz, family friend Calvin West and New Jersey Network Executive Producer Sandra King.

Essex County Honors Justice Brennan

Essex County hosted a reception on Nov. 17 to commence fund-raising efforts to build a statue honoring former U.S. Supreme Court and N.J. Supreme Court Justice William Brennan Jr., one of the nation’s most prominent jurists. Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo Jr. ran the event, held at the historic Essex County Courthouse.
