David Satz Jr., the U.S. attorney for New Jersey for most of the 1960s and one of the first attorneys to represent casino gaming interests in New Jersey, died of cancer on Dec. 25 at his home in Essex County. He was 83.

Satz, known as a hard-nosed state and federal prosecutor, was with the Saiber firm in Newark for four decades — until his death. After New Jersey legalized casino gambling, he represented casino interests in litigation and regulatory matters and helped shape casino gaming laws in the state.
