Five former New Jersey attorneys general have lined up in defense of last year’s federal court ruling that blanket strip searches of people arrested on non-indictable charges like traffic and child-support violations are unconstitutional.

On Tuesday, the American Civil Liberties Union and its New Jersey affiliate moved for leave to file an amicus brief with the Third U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on behalf of Robert Del Tufo, Zulima Farber, John Farmer Jr., Peter Harvey and Deborah Poritz.
