A Hudson County fire department sued for racial bias in hiring practices has won the right to a hearing on the impact of a recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling on racial preferences in the workplace.

That decision, Ricci v. DeStefano, 129 S.Ct. 2658 (2009), came last June, four months after a federal judge enjoined North Hudson Regional Fire & Rescue from hiring under a policy found to disparately impact minority applicants.
