LeClairRyan celebrated the relocation of its offices at Two Penn Plaza East in Newark with a grand opening party on Jan. 21. The firm’s new digs — 45,000 square feet on two floors in the Law Center on Raymond Boulevard — houses 77 people, including 42 attorneys. During the celebration, David Freinberg, head of the Newark office, presented a check to Mayor Cory Booker for Newark Now, the group founded by Booker in 2003 to provide Newark residents with skills, tools and support to transform their neighborhoods. The evening included an appearance by The Learning Channel’s “Cake Boss” Buddy Valastro, owner of Carlo’s City Hall Bake Shop in Hoboken, a client who baked a cake for the event. Summit Prep School Wins Mock Trial Competition
A team from Oratory Preparatory School of Summit won a mock trial competition on Feb. 4 sponsored by the New Jersey State Bar Foundation and the Union County Bar Association. The competition took place at the Union County Courthouse in Elizabeth. The team now heads to the Central Regional Competition to win a chance to advance to the state finals this month. Surrounded by the winning team of student attorneys, witnesses and jurors are, from left: Union County mock trial coordinator Andrew Gibbs, of Lindabury, McCormick, Estabrook & Cooper of Westfield; finals judges Marianne Espinosa of the Appellate Division and Kathryn Brock of the Union County Superior Court; Oratory Prep teacher-coach William Martin; and attorney-coach Robert Scirocco, a Budd Lake solo.
