Partners for Women and Justice, a nonprofit, public interest law firm that represents low-income, abused women in domestic violence and family law matters, honored Linda Fairstein, former chief of the Manhattan District Attorneys Sex-Crimes Unit, and Gale Britton, a vice president at Prudential Financial Inc. and Partners board trustee, on May 19 during its spring fund-raising benefit at the Valley Regency in Clifton. Both received the Partner in Hope Award at the event, put on with the Silver Family Foundation, Lowenstein Sandler and Lois Goldring. McCarter Guides Students Through Mock Trial

A group of students from Newark’s Ivy Hill Elementary School tried a mock case at the Newark Municipal Courthouse on May 13, culminating a 10-week mock trial apprenticeship at McCarter & English. Newark Mayor Cory Booker, Newark Councilman Ronald Rice and McCarter’s Newark office managing partner Michael Guariglia offered encouragement and congratulations to the students, participants in the Citizen Schools after-school program. With Newark Chief Justice Richard Nunes presiding, the students made their arguments and examined witnesses. A jury made up of attorneys from McCarter and the city of Newark rendered a verdict for the plaintiff.
