A Bergen County judge has made novel use of the state Consumer Fraud Act as a remedy for homeowners caught in a mortgage-rescue scam.

Superior Court Judge Ellen Koblitz unleashed the CFA’s full fury at a businessman who promised a Garfield couple facing foreclosure that he would buy their home, hold it for a year in trust and sell it back to them — and then reneged on the deal.
