After 45 years of practicing law and holding top governmental posts, David Samson doesn’t need a new notch on his résumé, but chairing the nation’s pre-eminent regional transportation agency is likely to provide one anyway.

Gov. Chris Christie on Thursday announced his nomination of Samson, a founding partner of Wolff & Samson in West Orange, to a six-year term on the board of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, with the intention that he will become chairman.
