The state Supreme Court is ruminating over whether failure to meet a statutory deadline for objecting to a development project is fatal, even where the challengers claim environmental safety is at stake.

A lawyer representing the Hopewell Valley Citizens Group told the Court on Tuesday that missing the 45-day deadline by a week was inadvertent, caused by incorrect information given out by a clerk in the township’s planning office.
