A New Jersey appeals court overturned a speeding conviction on Tuesday, finding the speed gun used in the case has never been found scientifically reliable by the courts and that the state did not turn over data relevant to that determination.
The court, in State v. Green, A-6199-08, ordered a retrial but only after an evidentiary hearing on the Stalker Lidar, a laser-operated gauge that is widely used by the state police and a few local police departments.
