Quinlan v. Curtiss-Wright Corporation, A-51 September Term 2009; Supreme Court; opinion by Hoens, J.; dissent by Albin, J.; decided December 2, 2010. On certification to the Appellate Division, 409 N.J. Super. 193 (App. Div. 2009). [Sat below: Judges Wefing, Parker and LeWinn in the Appellate Division; Judge Goldman in the Law Division.] DDS No. 25-1-xxxx [66 pp.]

Plaintiff Joyce Quinlan, then the executive director of human resources for defendant Curtiss-Wright Corporation, believed that the company discriminated against her when it promoted Kenneth Lewis, a man she thought was less qualified than she, and made him her supervisor. Previously, Quinlan reported directly to Martin Benante, the company’s CEO and president. Plaintiff filed a complaint alleging that she was the victim of gender discrimination based on the failure to promote her; defendant engaged in a pattern and practice of gender discrimination; and defendant discriminated against her in wages and salary.
