An economy still in the tank hit lobbyists in the pocket overall last year, but business in 2010 was still brisk for law firms that lobby the state government in Trenton.

New Jersey’s top 10 lobbying law firms saw revenues of $10.4 million, a 2.6 percent hike over 2009, according to Election Law Enforcement Commission statistics released Wednesday. [ See chart.]

The numbers for the industry as a whole were not so rosy. Registered lobbyists’ revenues in 2010 fell 3.7 percent to $54.3 million from $56.4 million in 2009.
