The 2011 Robert N. Wilentz Justice Forum on Law and the Public Interest featured a lecture on March 28 by James Coleman Jr., a former New Jersey Supreme Court justice and now of counsel to Porzio, Bromberg & Newman in Morristown. Coleman chronicled his journey to the state’s highest Court and the assistance Chief Justice Wilentz had given him along the way. That journey began with Coleman’s exodus to New Jersey from a life of poverty in a still-segregated South, illustrated by the shoes, shown, he wore on the trip north. The forum was the seventh in a series, hosted by Legal Services of New Jersey, honoring the memory of the late chief justice.
