Wrong Client — It’s not a good idea to take a case suing the public entity you want to work for, as Daniel Gallagher was reminded Thursday.

Daniel Gallagher

Gallagher, of Miller Gallagher & Grimley in Atlantic City, was hoping to be chosen as solicitor for the city’s board of education in May 2006. But two days before the vote, he was retained by a board member to sue the board over its policy that sending suburban school districts can cast board votes. It turned out to be the sending district votes that cost him the solicitor job, which was worth about $300,000 a year in billings.
