The Alcotest drunken-driver detector has passed another trial, as a judge found on Aug. 24 that it can be calibrated using a cheaper thermometer than the brand specified by the state Supreme Court without sacrificing accuracy.

Superior Court Judge Francis Vernoia in Monmouth County said DWI defendants “failed to sustain their burden of production to show the manner in which any differences between the digital thermometers had any impact at all on the proper calibration of the Alcotests.”
