A litigation trend that started in California — class-action suits alleging invasion of privacy by retailers that collect ZIP codes from customers — is catching on in New Jersey.

A Morris County judge has refused to dismiss such a suit against Union-based drugstore chain Harmon Stores, rejecting Harmon Stores’ assertion that a ZIP code is too broad an identifier to make for a privacy violation.
