A tax court judge has slapped the wrist of a prominent tax-appeal defense lawyer for demanding too much in discovery and for resorting to motions instead of talking to his adversary.

In a Sept. 16 opinion, Judge Gail Menyuk in Trenton said Martin Allen — whose firm represents more than a score of municipalities in tax appeals — “has a practice of demanding answers that go beyond what is asked for by the standard interrogatories” and “refusing to accept answers to interrogatories that have been adequately answered.”
