This litigation involves three hormone replacement therapy (HRT) products. Premarin and Prempro are the brand names for specific estrogen and combination estrogen- plus-progestin prescription drugs produced and marketed by Wyeth Inc. and Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, Inc., and approved by the Food and Drug Administration to treat menopausal symptoms and for prevention of osteoporosis. Provera is the brand name for an FDA-approved progestin produced and marketed by Pharmacia & Upjohn Co. for the treatment of secondary amenorrhea, functional uterine bleeding and related conditions due to hormone imbalance in the absence of organic pathology.
