The year 2011 was certainly a busy one in the legal technology field. Law Technology News covered many important trends, as did its many sister publications. Below are some that stand out as being true game-changers.
11. Steve Jobs. Seemingly everyone, including us, lamented his death. The often brilliant and infamously moody leader of Apple died of cancer at age 56. His visions strongly impacted legal technology and not just on the iPad front. But as famous and important as Jobs was, the legal technology field was unknowingly far more impacted by artificial intelligence pioneer “Uncle” John McCarthy, who also died this year. Modern search and discovery technologies trace back to McCarthy’s work and that of his many progenies. Nor should we overlook the passing of Dennis Ritchie, the lead inventor of the C programming language atop which much of the modern IT world is developed.
