A man left paralyzed from a stroke accepted $1 million on Jan. 10 to settle his suit against his primary care physician, Balzamano v. Angello.

On Dec. 4, 2007, Joseph Balzamano, then 51, went to see Dr. Philip Angello in Farmingdale, complaining of intermittent light-headedness and double vision. He had risk factors for heart disease, including hypertension, hyperlipidemia and prior smoking. Angello referred him to an ophthalmologist and ordered a carotid artery test. On Dec. 31, Balzamano suffered the stroke.
