The ACLU-NJ recognized two attorneys and a law center on March 26 at the Newark Club in Newark for work upholding the Bill of Rights. William Singer, of Singer & Fedun in Belle Mead, received the Bill of Rights Award for his four decades of pioneering legal work in securing the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities. Amy Gottlieb, director of the American Friends Service Committee’s Immigrant Rights Project in Newark, received the Legal Leadership Award for helping thousands of people navigate the complicated terrain of immigration law. Seton Hall Law Center for Social Justice in Newark received the Legal Leadership Award for groundbreaking work in civil liberties cases, including representation of Guantanamo Bay detainees.
Hispanic Bar Donates $10,000 to School Program

The Hispanic National Bar Association announced the awarding of a $10,000 grant to Public School No. 5 in the Jersey City public school system in connection with a volunteer program to assist Latino students in that community. The funds will go to assist the schools in their pipeline initiatives and to provide additional resources to promising students who are interested in careers in the law. The announcement was a highlight of the HNBA’s annual midyear corporate counsel conference, held March 28-31 at the Westin Newport in Jersey City.
