I have never been married, and I occasionally go out on dates. My most recent date got me thinking about how our romantic lives inform our legal lives and vice versa. Here are some lessons I have learned.

Lesson No. 1: Be open to the universe. Yes, the universe can send some tough things our way in law and in love. But, over the course of a lifetime, the greatest return comes by being open to the universe, not closed off from it. So, when you stumble into a career opportunity, take it — even if, like Christopher Columbus, you were looking for one thing but found another.
