Party City Holdings Inc. of Rockaway, a distributor of party items, announced on June 5 it has sold a majority stake in the company to private equity firm Thomas H. Lee Partners L.P. in Boston for about $2.7 billion.

Verizon Buys Hughes Telematics

Telecommunications company Verizon in Basking Ridge announced on June 1 it paid $612 million in cash for automobile-technology company Hughes Telematics of Atlanta, Ga. Verizon was advised by a team from Debevoise & Plimpton, led by Jeffrey J. Rosen and William D. Regner, while Hughes was advised by Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, both in New York.
