Almost $12 million in verdicts awarded to three Florida women who developed debilitating bowel problems after using the acne drug Accutane were thrown out on appeal in a decision that could impact similar suits.

Ruling in three cases brought in New Jersey, the Appellate Division held that the claims were not time-barred but controlling Florida precedent on proximate causation entitled drug makers Hoffmann-La Roche Inc. and Roche Laboratories Inc. to judgment as a matter of law.
