I recently gave a talk on the subject of “family law implications for business.” In particular, the group wanted to know what can happen to a business — or business person — when they go through a divorce.

This got me thinking: What is it that most people think about in a divorce scenario? Some start raiding bank accounts. Others obsess about who gets the house, what happens to the 401(k)s or who gets Grandma’s silver. The children are often used as leverage to obtain a more favorable financial settlement.
