When Olympus America Inc. released last May the DS-2500 digital voice recorder and the DS-3500 and DS-7000 professional dictation systems, the event immediately registered on my radar after comparing mobile dictation devices in the April 1, 2011, edition of Law Technology News magazine (LTN). When I contrasted high-end digital recorders for the August 1, 2012, edition of LTN, I included the DS-2500 and looked forward to this review of the digital recorder, which works as an entry-level dictation machine for legal professionals.
The DS-2500 not only records voice but also edits voice records by inserting and partially deleting recorded speech (text) as well as appending text to an existing file. The DS-2500 made it easy for me to dictate letters and memos and comfortable to record speech in a conference or meeting room without causing a disruption.
