In a case closely watched by medical malpractice and hospital lawyers, the New Jersey Supreme Court has agreed to hear its first appeal concerning a patient-protection law enacted after the mayhem wreaked by mass-murdering nurse Charles Cullen.

The 2004 Patient Safety Act was meant to help prevent mistakes that kill or injure patients by having hospitals assess what went wrong and report serious “adverse events” to the state.
