A Bergen County jury awarded a total of $2.725 million on Feb. 13 to the estate of a worker who was killed and two others who were injured when a pressurized vessel exploded.

The suit, Estate of Gomez v. Tec-Cast, stemmed from a Jan. 15, 2008, explosion at Tec-Cast Inc. in Carlstadt when Mario Gomez, 61, of Jersey City, was using a welder to repair a vessel that shapes aluminum parts. The welds and seams allegedly failed because of metal fatigue.
