Not-So-Clinging Mom — One expects a mother to hoard keepsakes from her child’s youth. But mementos of Kobe Bryant’s early basketball days have more than sentimental value, so you can’t blame his mother for putting them up for auction.

In January, Pamela Bryant consigned to Goldin Auctions, of West Berlin, N.J., about 100 items — including uniforms, warm-up suits and other garments Bryant wore at Lower Merion High School in Pennsylvania, as well as plaques, trophies and championship rings — in exchange for a $450,000 advance. She claims her son and his wife said they didn’t want them.
