A bill introduced in the New Jersey Assembly on March 7, A-3909/S-2750, would drastically alter the alimony statute.
Among the changes are a formula that ties the length of the marriage to the length of the alimony in five-year increments, a formula that ties the amount of the alimony to the parties’ incomes, elimination of permanent alimony and a provision that allows alimony recipients and obligors who are paying or receiving alimony to seek a modification of their orders to bring them into conformity with the new law.
