Back in 2003, when he was president of the Morris County Bar Foundation, William A. Krais of Porzio, Bromberg & Newman in Morristown and New Jersey State Bar Association trustee decided to organize a run. “Our annual fundraiser had always been a golf outing. I enjoy running, and thought it would be a great way to raise money for a worthy cause,” he says. Krais modeled the event after the annual fundraiser at the Matheny Medical and Educational Center in Peapack, where he sits on the board. Two years later when he was president of the county’s bar association, the run was launched. This week, the foundation will hold its ninth annual Lawyers for Kids 5K, which also includes a two-mile walk and fun run for kids. Krais, 48, a personal injury lawyer who earned his J.D. at Boston University School of Law, will be among the hundreds competing.

Q. We’ll talk about the run in a minute. But first we’d like to ask what attracted you to the law.
