An Essex County judge on Sept. 18 approved a $985,000 settlement of a suit on behalf of a child injured by a school bus, Hayes v. Collin.

In August 2011, bus driver Elifaite Collin turned left onto Oretin Avenue from Chester Avenue in Newark and struck Mitchell Hayes, then 11, in the crosswalk, according to the suit filed by his mother, Lavonne Hayes.
