Volunteer Lawyers for Justice presented its “Heroes of Sandy” awards on Dec. 3 during its Arts & Eats for Justice Gala at the Newark Museum in Newark. Law firms recognized for providing extensive legal services to hurricane victims through VLJ are Drinker Biddle & Reath, Florham Park; Duane Morris, Newark; Gibbons, Newark; Giordano, Halleran & Ciesla, Red Bank; Jackson Lewis, Morristown; McCarter & English, Newark; Patton Boggs, Newark; and Riker, Danzig, Scherer, Hyland & Perretti, Morristown. In addition, the Legal Services Foundation of Essex County, of which VLJ is its largest grantee, presented its annual service awards: the Dickinson Debevoise Award to Connell Foley in Roseland and the Douglas Eakeley Award to Robert Steinbaum, publisher of the New Jersey Law Journal.
