The silos between the practice areas of product liability and intellectual property need to come down, argues a lawyer living in China who leads investigations into counterfeit fashion items and automotive parts.

The legal profession needs to develop a role of “brand protection managers” who are capable of understanding the implications that trademark counterfeiting in China causes not only for a company’s intellectual property and corporate security but for products liability, Paolo Beconcini, a partner at Carroll Burdick & McDonough, wrote on The Global Legal Post.
