The New Jersey State Bar Association’s Civil Trial Bar Section conferred its James J. McLaughlin Award on retired New Jersey Supreme Court Justice Helen Hoens and Michael Madden, a founding partner of Haddonfield’s Madden & Madden, at a dinner held Feb. 20 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in New Brunswick. The award recognizes attorneys and judges who demonstrate civility, legal competence and professionalism in civil trial law.

Trial Advocates Hold Mid-Winter Meeting

The American Board of Trial Advocates, Northern New Jersey Chapter, held its winter/holiday dinner meeting on Dec. 18 at the Upper Montclair Country Club in Clifton. The keynote speaker, New Jersey Supreme Court Justice Barry Albin, addressed the importance of separation of governmental powers and in particular the independence of the judiciary. Timothy Barnes, a partner with Porzio, Bromberg & Newman in Morristown, was honored for his years of service to the organization.
